Continuing the trend established at previous ITMA shows, more and more test instruments are microprocessor-controlled, or at the very least can be interfaced to a software package for data evaluation and management. Most of the software now also controls the test procedure itself, with the effect of increasing accuracy and repeatability of test results by eliminating variability due to operator technique. In most cases, the software is user-friendly and is Windows-based. Computer simulation of fabric appearance from yarn testing continues to evolve. Several companies introduced new software for this purpose.
