Application of Eco-Friendly Henna Leaves for Dyeing Garment Leather

摘要

Dyeing of sheep leather with henna produced greenish yellow and brown shades with the combination of various natural tannins (anar ka chilka, harda & katha) and mordant (alum, potassium-di-chromate & ferrous sulphate). The dyed leather gave good fastness properties in terms of bleeding, crocking (dry and wet) and light. Samples, which were re-tanned with katha and post-mordanted with alum showed unexpected characteristics of becoming darker after exposure of light.
