Lyocell fibres have been described as potentially the most promising innovation in the man-made fibres for almost half a century. A completely new generic type of cellulosic fibre, lyocell appears to meet most requirements demanded by the contemporary textile industries. However, an initially rapidly growing demand appears to be faltering for reasons entirely unconnected with the fibre's performance.
