Funds crunch shrinks textile research bodies' scope

It is now boom time for the domestic textile industry, but its backbone, R&D, the engine of any manufacturing industry, is being smothered by a funds crunch. The Government, which currently bears 40-45 per cent of the textile research associations' (TRAS) expenses, is looking to end the dole in a few years. However, for TRAs attempting a transition to a marketing set-up, the going has been tough.
