Grasim Industries ltd Achieves Rs 17,000 crore Sales Turnover in F.Y. 2007-2008

Grasim Industries Ltd achieved a turnover of Rs 16,974 crore in F.Y. 07-08, up by 21% while net profit at Rs 2,655 crores reflects an impressive growth of 35%, which is indeed commendable. The company had taken a slew of initiatives to grow its leadership position in both cement and viscose staple fibre businesses. In the VSF business, Grasim as a Group today enjoys 24% of the global market share. Grasim has evolved a unique strategic brand architecture for "Birla Cellulose", its VSF brand. The company has brought in innovative value added products and has bolstered its share in the non-woven segment. Grasim's brownfield expansions which began last year in India, Thailand, Indonesia and China are all on track. With this, the company's VSF capacity has increased from 569,000 TPA (March 07) to 703,000 TPA (March 08) and is expected to further increase to 752,000 TPA (March 09). The company is in the process of obtaining necessary approvals for further brownfield and Greenfield expansions in India and Egypt. With these, the capacity of Grasim VSF is expected to increase to 958,000 TPA in the near future.
