Domestic market helped: Dr. J N Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles

"Let me thank our domestic consumers in India who have helped us survive this downturn" said Dr. J N Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles while inaugurating the 4th Asian Textile Conference. In a detailed presentation, Dr. Singh portrayed the delicate phase that the industry had been passing through for about a year. Dr. Singh explained that the majority of textile companies which had posted losses in the last two quarters of the previous financial year had made a significant come back by making profits in the first quarter of the year 2009-10. He said that the reasonably strong domestic demand had played a big role in reversing the trend.
