The key principles of the Advanced Intelligent Network—versatility, flexibility and adaptability— allow telephone companies to rapidly create new services as they are identified in the market. AIN gives telcos a distributed network architecture that allows service intelligence to be spread throughout the network, rather than being fully contained within a single network element such as a switch. With the early implementation of services in AIN, the principle of service independence was observed, with the switch having generic call processing models rather than application-specific call models.
