TD-SCDMA, China's homegrown 3G standard, has been given another big push from the MII (Ministry of Information Industry). According to sources close to the existing TD-SCDMA trials, a further five cities are to be used for TD-SCDMA testing: Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Qinhuangdao, Tianjin and Shenyang. The new trials are scheduled to start in March and will take the total number of cities where TD-SCDMA is being tested to ten. Pilot trials in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Baoding, Qingdao and Xiamen began in November 2006.
