MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY

Customers' right to choose most affordable tariff plan and high quality of service for his mobile phone is just and genuine. He needs to change his operator to avail these more often but he is against the change of his mobile number. TRAI has now come out with a proposal ordering the Mobile Operators to implement Mobile Number Portability (MNP) before March 2007. MNP is a scheme that allows a subscriber to keep the same number of his mobile phone while he switches over from one operator to another. Many countries have already introduced this MNP in their network. In this article some of the issues related to introduction of MNP in our country, viz., necessity for early implementation, technical solutions that are proposed, different methods to be adopted and more precisely on data base management and control.
