Canada's Multimedia and Information Highway

Canada has a vibrant national information infrastructure initiative. The Government of Canada has been laying the groundwork for the information superhighway since 1994, and its Information Highway Advisory Council (IHAC) was launched in the spring of that year to advise the government on relevant issues. Earlier this year, the IHAC issued a major report of its findings on the progress and future requirements of the nation's evolving information superhighway. In the report, IHAC stressed an action plan to help provide Canadians with a national framework for a successful transition to an information society and knowledge-based economy.
