ALLTEL CLOSES PROPERTY SWAP WITH U.S. CELLULAR

Alltel said it has wrapped up a property exchange with U.S. Cellular, a big step toward making divestiture demanded in Alltel’s purchase of Western Wireless. Alltel is getting 2 rural service area (RSA) markets in Ida. and $50 million cash in exchange for 15 rural markets in Kan. and Neb. The Justice Dept. required Alltel to sell the Kan. and Neb. markets as a condition of the merger.
