GARTNER: CELLPHONE SALES STILL STRONG WORLDWIDE

Mobile phone sales worldwide reached 205 million units in June, July and August, a 22% rise year-on-year, according to numbers from Gartner. Handset sales worldwide should hit 810 million units for the year, the company said. While overall handset sales slowed 2005 compared to 2004, sales in Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America rose 40%, with handset makers seeing high volume sales of low-price models in those nations. Gartner said handset sales would increase from 10-15% in 2006.
