LA. LAW WOULD BAN HANDHELD CELLPHONES FOR NEW DRIVERS

The La. House passed a carphone safety bill that would bar new drivers of any age from using a handheld wireless phone while driving for the first year following issuance of a first-time La. license. HB-1013 would let new drivers use only hands-free wireless phones. The curb wouldn抰 cover drivers previously licensed in other states but now holding La. licenses. First offenders would face a $150 fine or 16 hours?community service.
