MOBILE DATA SERVICES REACH 50% OF CELLPHONE USERS, STUDY SAYS

Mobile data use passed the 50% adoption mark in the U.S., according to a study released Wed. by performance measurement firm Telephia. Mobile data services like text messaging, mobile Web and data downloads reached 50% of all users in Q4 2005, the study said, up 3 points from Q3. The study also showed that users surfing the Web with handsets were far more likely to adopt a monthly plan rather than pay a per-kilobit fee, whereas SMS data users split about evenly.
