USAC CEO LISA ZAINA RESIGNS

Lisa Zaina, CEO of the Universal Service Administrative Co. (USAC), announced her resignation effective Dec. 31 saying she wants to “move on to undertake new challenges.” USAC Gen. Counsel Scott Barash has been named acting CEO until USAC's board selects a successor. USAC has been under fire from Congress due to instances of fraud in the Universal Service Fund the agency oversees. The FCC has been studying ways to improve the organization's operations. Zaina left the office Fri. after announcing her resignation and neither a USAC spokeswoman nor an FCC official would comment on speculation that Zaina’s departure was encouraged by the FCC. Zaina became USAC CEO 2 years ago after working as senior legal advisor to FCC Comr. Jonathan Adelstein.
