Aerospace interests mounted last-ditch opposition to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin's proposal for mobile wireless broadband emissions limits, as the interests waited to see whether the FCC will actually vote on it this month. Martin listed the 2.3 GHz rules on the tentative agenda for the commission's Dec. 18 meeting. A member of the House Appropriations Committee is asking the FCC to reject the proposal. "The aerospace industry has indicated that there would be significant adverse effects on flight test telemetry in the form of increased interference generated by an increase from adjacent" Wireless Communications Service operations, wrote Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan., whose district includes major Boeing facilities. nnThe aerospace industry became concerned when the WCS Coalition began pushing for rules that would allow for the deployment of mobile wireless broadband in the 2.3 GHz band. When the WCS band was created in the 1990s, a fixed service was contemplated. The WCS Coalition's main opponent has been satellite radio, which is also concerned that mobile wireless broadband will cause harmful interference. The sides have been arguing for more than a decade about possible conflicts, since WCS's lower bands are adjacent to the satellite radio band. Martin proposed accepting the WCS Coalition's proposal for out-of-band emissions.
