The wireless inquiries scheduled for consideration at the FCC meeting Thursday show increased concentration on wireless competition "amid heightened attention on roaming, handset exclusivity, text message pricing, open access and other issues by Democratic FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and the Democratic- led Congress," Medley Global Advisors said in a research note. "Investors and industry are apt to pay particularly close attention to the FCC inquiry regarding how the agency approaches the next report to Congress on the state of competition in the wireless industry. The new FCC's next assessment of wireless industry competition is highly significant, since it could effectively lay the predicate for a number of other future policy decisions involving roaming, handset exclusivity, network openness and possible re-enactment of a spectrum cap."
