USTELECOM JOINS OPPOSITION TO REDISTRIBUTING USF MONEY TO CETCS

USTelecom joined Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel in opposing a request for the FCC to redirect universal service money that used to go to Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel into a pool for all competitive eligible telecommunications carriers. The wireline association called 搉onsensical?arguments by Corr Wireless, which sought the action. The Universal Service Administrative Co. decided that money given up by Verizon Wireless after it bought Alltel, and by Sprint after creation of the Clearwire venture, should no longer count for purposes of figuring how much money is available to CETCs, since their reimbursement is capped. Both carriers gave up the money under FCC orders approving the deals. Corr said the FCC should in effect redirect the money to other CETCs.
