Handset shipments will fall at least 8 percent in 2009, ABI Research forecast. And flat sales are the "best the market will deliver" in 2010, it said. The Middle East and Africa will fare best, but even there volumes will be low, it said. The Asia-Pacific region will suffer most in 2009 and stabilization will come later than in North America and Europe, resulting in a slight decline in 2010, ABI said. Many handset vendors are replacing component inventories after reducing them to very low levels in recent months to keep from overextending as the market dropped, ABI said.
