Rural Telcos Seek Limits on Comcast-NBC Universal Combination

Three rural telco groups supported requests by the American Cable Association for FCC nconditions on Comcast's proposed purchase of control of NBC Universal. A filing by the nNational Telecommunications Cooperative Association, the Organization for the Advancementnof Small Telecommunications Companies and the National Rural Telecommunications nCooperative reported on a meeting that representatives had with an aide to Commissioner nMeredith Baker. The groups asked that Comcast-NBC Universal be required to license nall programming on terms at least as good as those for Comcast cable systems. The ncombined company should be required to sell its stake in the Comcast Media Center and In nDemand or be prohibited from tying programming from the ventures in licensing deals, the ntelco groups said.
