Senator Seeks Conditions on Qwest Takeover by CenturyLink

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., said CenturyLink's takeover of Qwest could disrupt his nconstituents’ “continued access to competitive alternatives” in telecom service. In an Oct. 21 nletter released this week, Dorgan asked FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski to impose nconditions on the deal. “Unlike Qwest, CenturyLink has never managed the complex ntechnical challenges required for competing carriers to interconnect with a regional Bell ncompany network,” wrote Dorgan, who's retiring this year. “Without specific conditions set nforth by the FCC, the merged company might not have the technical and operational expertise nto maintain or improve the quality of service currently enjoyed by my constituents.”
