Genachowski Says 700 MHz D-Block Auction Plan Has Plenty of Support

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said the commission's proposal to auction the 700 MHz nD-block has enough support from associations of fire and police agencies that he's not worried nby the strong opposition from APCO and other groups. Congress has discussed using the nauction proceeds to pay for a public safety wireless broadband network. "We’re moving nforward very energetically on what was an aggressive implementation for the National nBroadband Plan that we announced a few months ago and so across the agency, staff is nworking around the clock to try to meet the targets that we set in the implementation plan," nGenachowski said. "I’m sure you know how hard the Public Safety and Homeland Security nBureau and the Wireless Bureau are working, in particular on delivering a successful plan on npublic safety." He said there's a "tremendous amount of bipartisan support for the plan," nnotably from the Fraternal Order of Police, the International Association of Fire Fighters and nthe chairman and vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission. "There continue to be ongoing ndiscussions."
