FCC Workshop Elicits Support for Electronic License System

Speakers at an FCC workshop generally supported a commission proposal for a Consolidated nLicensing System. Mary Beth Richards, special counsel to the chairman for revamping the nFCC, said the commission will release a rulemaking notice on the system and plans additional nworkshops. "We support electronic filing," said Christopher Bjornson, a lawyer at Steptoe & nJohnson. "The more the better. It should be the rule of limited exceptions rather than having nexceptions sometimes swallow the rules. There's still license filings and other filings that nneed to be incorporated electronically that are made by paper -- those should go away as nmuch as possible."
