CTIA and states are at odds over a bill to loosen wireless restrictions in the Telephone nConsumer Protection Act. The House Communications Subcommittee is holding a hearing nFriday on a bill taking up concerns that mobile restrictions in the act prevent consumers from nreceiving calls with information important to them. In written testimony for the hearing, CTIA nGeneral Counsel Michael Altschul says a spike in wireless adoption and a decline in prices nsince the law was passed in 1991 call for a “fresh look” at the mobile rules. But Indiana nAttorney General Greg Zoeller says he and counterparts in at least eight states worry that the nbill “will create obstacles to effective enforcement of state consumer protection laws and go far nbeyond the stated goal of giving debt collectors a new avenue to contact debtors."
