All VoIP calls resemble conventional ones, so the FCC needs to protect the public by imposing n911 location-accuracy requirements on outgoing-only Internet calls, the Association for nPublic-Safety Communications Officials told the commission in comments on a further notice nof proposed rulemaking. But the VON Coalition said imposing the requirement on noutgoing-only services would go too far. The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry nSolutions said duties should be based on the way a device is physically attached to the access nnetwork, not on the kind of voice technology. The alliance said industry will need time to ndevelop technology to comply with any requirement.
