Cable Companies Ask FCC to Apply Same Compensation Cap to Traffic To and From VoIP

The intercarrier-compensation order plainly capped at interstate levels the rate for traffic moving to or from VoIP, representatives of Cablevision and Charter Communications told aides to the FCC commissioners, according to an ex parte filing. Frontier and Windstream had asked the Wireline Bureau to clarify that the order dealt only with termination fees for intrastate toll traffic that originates in TDM and terminates in VoIP and didn't touch origination fees. Cablevision and Charter called it "essential" for TDM-to-VoIP traffic to be treated the same as VoIP-to-TDM access.
