The House Communications Subcommittee wants to make sure the broadband stimulus grants arenworking as intended. It scheduled a hearing on the topic for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in 2322 Rayburn.n“This hearing will review whether taxpayers are getting a good return on their investment, examine recentnallegations of waste, and discuss measures that might be taken to avoid certain pitfalls in the future,” thenannouncement said (http://1.usa.gov/VyQZwC). The hearing’s “big focus” will be the $100.6 millionngrant recipient called EAGLE-Net, Rachel George, spokeswoman for Rep. Cory Gardner, told us. ThenColorado Republican has been critical of the stimulus grantee over the last several months amid accusationsnof overbuilding and waste — allegations the grantee disputes (CD Sept 27 p6). She described thencongressman’s office as “the primary driver” leading to this subcommittee hearing.
