摘要

The arguments presented by Janak et al. [2004] for ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism of eclogites in the Pohorje Mountains are based on indirect evidence. Hence UHP conditions are not yet unambiguously documented in the eastern Alps and must await the discovery of coesite and/or diamond. We would like to emphasize that we do not deny the possibility that UHP conditions might have been reached during Eoalpine metamorphism in the Pohorje, Saualpe, and Koralpe eclogites, although the presence of quartz inclusions in zircon of a Pohorje eclogite is consistent with HP conditions. In any case, microtextures and mineral chemistry of the Saualpe and Koralpe eclogites suggest that their P-T conditions were not significantly different from those in the Pohorje Mountains.
