Reply to comment by M. A. Laurenzi on 'Recurrence of volcanic activity along the Roman Comagmatic Province (Tyrrhenian margin of Italy) and its tectonic significance'

Marra et al. [2004] (hereinafter referred to as Marra et al.) demonstrate by statistical treatment of a data set of published radiometric ages that volcanic activity in the Roman Comagmatic Province (RCP) recurred every 48 kyr. Laurenzi [2005] (hereinafter referred to as Laurenzi) criticizes the data set used and concludes that the existence of a recurrence time for the RCP should be considered just a "working hypothesis." Following Laurenzi, we limit our reply to the compilation and use of the data set. Probably, Laurenzi's objections arise from unclear description of the criteria followed by Marra et al. to compile and statistically treat the data. We are grateful to Laurenzi for giving us the chance to better clarify the criteria on which our conclusions rest and for pointing out some mistakes in the compilation of the data set.
