The 5th World Water Forum In Istanbul Invites Decision-makers From Around The World To Take Action

Les Forums mondiaux de l'eau sont organisés tous les trois ans par le Conseil mondial de l'eau, en étroite collaboration avec les autorités des pays d'accueil. Le premier d'entre eux s'est tenu en 1997, à Marrakech. Les forums suivants ont eu lieu en 2000 à La Haye, en 2003 à Kyoto et, enfin, en 2005 à Mexico. Le 5e Forum mondial de l'eau a lieu à Istanbul, en Turquie, du 16 au 22 mars 2009, sur le thème « Brid- ging divides for water » ou « Réduire la fracture de l'eau». Ces forums sont les plus grands événements internationaux dans le domaine de l'eau. Pendant une semaine, gouvernements, autorités locales, institutions intergouvernementales, décideurs économiques et sociaux, et acteurs de la société civile y débattent en vue de proposer des solu- tions aux grandes questions liées à l'eau dans le monde. Près de 20 000 personnes ont visité et participé au Forum de Mexico et autant sont attendues à Istanbul.%World Water Forums are organised every three years by the World Water Council, in close collaboration with the authorities of the host country. The first one was held in 1997 in Marrakech, then in 2000 in The Hague, 2003 in Kyoto and, lastly, 2005 in Mexico. The 5th World Water Forum will be in Istanbul, Turkey, from 16 to 22 March 2009, on the topic "Brid- ging divides for water". These forums are the largest international events dealing with water. For a week, governments, local authorities, intergovernmental institutions, economic and social decision-makers and stakeholders from civil society can debate with a view to proposing solutions to the main questions concerning water in the world. Nearly 20,000 people visited and took part in the Mexico Forum, and as many are expected in Istanbul.
