The company was founded in 1915 as a gunpowder factory in Premnitz. 1972 saw the successful start-up of the Grisuten plant for the production of polyester fibers based on a polycondensation technology by Zimmer, with PTA and MEG as the raw materials. 14 years later, the entire Grisuten production was modernized. Owing to the reunification, the company underwent a privatization process of several years with various owners, until production was finally taken over by the companies Daun+Cie AG and Glaeser textil in May 2002. Since 2007, Markische Faser GmbH has been a 100% subsidiary of Glaeser textil, Ulm.
