The staple fiber nonwovens business in USA has suffered financial hardship due to the economic slowdowns in the 3 largest markets of home industrial, mattress and wipes. Freudenberg Nonwovens NA is to close the staple fiber nonwovens production lines at its Durham/NC facility effective at the end of March 2009. The Durham staple fiber nonwoven plant operates 2 base lines and 2 print-sets and employs 60 people. The Spunlaid Division in Durham is not affected by this closure. Freudenberg Nonwovens has remaining US operations in Durham/NC and Hopkinsville/KY.
