Due to growing demands on technical textiles, and their increasingly specialized and manifold application areas, the finishing of technical textiles is becoming ever more important. CvB: In your opinion, which finishing technology can achieve the most added value for technical textiles? Y.K: Textile coating and surface finishing technologies are well-established practices in industry. It is conceivable that we can rein-vigorate the practices and develop new high value-added technical textile products by infusing the concepts and techniques from emerging nanocoating and nanofinishing methods into these well-established technology. One of the most value-added finishing technologies is the super hydrophobic/self-cleaning finish based on nano-scale "polymer brush" coating.
