In various research projects, solutions for personal protective equipment (PPE) have been investigated and materials have been developed that have an improved wearing comfort compared to market-standard materials with the same or comparable level of protection. In a first project, a liner was developed, which, as an inner layer laminated to any type of protective clothing material, results in a high ab-sorbency and reduced adhesive tendency to improve the skin sensory wearing comfort. Especially for highly insulating protective clothing, a functional vest has been developed for wearing under the conventional PPE, which enables moisture and heat storage capacity. Panel tests were carried out on demonstrator models with the result that further development steps are required up to the final product. This knowledge was obtained from experiments. SMS nonwovens with an improved melt-blown barrier layer were developed in another project to ensure that protective clothing has a good balance between protection requirements and breathability. The abrasion resistance of the material could be increased with a special surface treatment.
