A program, sponsored by the LITA Internet Resources Interest Group, about the implementation and future development of federated searching tools was presented on June 25, 2005, at the ALA annual conference in Chicago. The program's four speakers, representing both academic and public libraries, offered their experiences in and insights into implementing federated searching tools and covered topics in user interface customization, configuration, authentication, integration with Web interfaces, acceptance of the tool among library staff, incorporation into information literacy programs, the division of responsibilities between consortia and libraries, and recommendations for future development.
