THE LIBRARIANS' INTERNET INDEX AND THE INTERNET PUBLIC LIBRARY

It seems most appropriate to review these two resources together, given the recent announcement that the iSchool at Drexel's College of Information Science and Technology which hosts the Internet Public Library (ipl) will assume responsibility for hosting the Librarian's Internet Index beginning in October 2008. It is the intention of the school and its partners (more about that later) to merge this resource with the ipl, which came to Drexel from the University of Michigan in January 2007, in the not too distant future. Given that these two are among the most important collections of links to reference websites available without charge on the web, the marriage of the two seems, at once, to be ominous and to hold great promise.
