Has your library's Technical Services staff transformed overnight into digital assets managers yet? Despite library management's expectations, this kind of transformation isn't as easy as a name change and a little training. Luckily, there are rich resources online to help us get started in digital asset project management. This review will focus on two websites that provide self-described "best practices" in digital library projects, which I have found helpful in defining and planning digital projects at my library. The Washington State Library's Digital Best Practices website is the best place to start if you are a newbie to digital projects. The site's structure, found on the first page, is clear and easy to follow with color coding for each of the stages of project planning. It progresses from Project Management to Collection Building through Technology specifications and finally, and perhaps most importantly, it has a section on Funding, including Resource Management. As the Washington State Library (WSL) Welcome message notes, "The site will guide you through the major decision points in planning a digital project."
