The cataloging and preservation of archival, historic, and primary source materials is a demanding specialization. Rare books catalogers focus on the original cataloging of rare books, serials, pamphlets, and ephemera— materials most mainstream catalogers do not encounter. Fortunately there is a wonderful site filled with bountiful resources to help with cataloging these materials, the RBMS (Rare Books and Manuscripts Section) Bibliographic Standards Committee Resources for the Rare Materials Cataloger.
