Resource, Description, and Access (RDA), the new cataloging standard, has been a long time coming. AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition), the current cataloging standard, was introduced in 1978, and although many revisions were made over the years, no doubt librarians are in a completely different world than the one that AACR2 endeavored to describe. RDA's goals are for international description of resources optimized for today's electronic information environment. Its philosophical and technological bases differ greatly from its predecessor; it is certainly a game changer, and one all librarians should try to get familiar with as soon as possible.
