摘要

The Technical Services Managers in Academic Libraries Interest Group met at the American Library Association 2014 Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia on the general theme, "Technical Services Rocks Change." Each time the group prepares to hold roundtable discussions at an ALA meeting, steering committee members brainstorm topics based on a sense of the current pulse of technical services. In Philadelphia, steering committee members led five table discussions on the following topics, using tie-ins to the titles of rock and roll songs: 1. Avoiding "Sabotage": Training mechanisms and coping strategies for suddenly overburdened staff (Amy Lana) 2. "When I'm Sixty-Four": Problems of retraining, retention, and attrition in our graying profession (Forrest Link) 3. "I Can See Clearly Now": Using project management in technical services (Stephanie Rodriguez) 4. "Why-R-D-A": It takes a Village (People) to prepare for RDA (Shannon Tennant) 5. "Come Together": Getting Technical Services involved in inter-departmental projects (Melinda Reagor Flannery) The challenges in these areas produced lively discussion, with the underlying premise that technical services, in fact, is changing and adapting to emerging conditions in academic libraries, that is, rocking change.
