Cataloging and classification: An introduction

Cataloging and Classification discusses the numerous factors involved in creating high-quality cataloging records. It covers not only bibliographic description (Chapters 1 -9), but also subject creation for different library needs -including the LCSH, FAST, Sears, and MESH systems (Chapters 10-14), as well as classification-including the Dewey and Library of Congress schemes and others (Chapters 15-18). Now in its 4th edition, this is a major rewrite and update of the text, as the world of cataloging has gone through major changes since the 3rd edition of 2007. No longer do we get chapters on the Anglo American Cataloging Rules (AACR) and main entry/added entry, but instead we learn about Resource Description and Access (RDA) in Chapters 5-9, and "identifying works and expressions" and "identifying persons, corporate bodies, and families" in Chapters 7 and 8. Also new to this edition is the inclusion of "recording relationships" in Chapter 9.
