There comes a time in many librarians' lives where they want to (or must) publish. How to Write and Get Published attempts to address the questions that arise when approaching publishing. The book is a thin workbook volume that is split into three sections: "Should I Really Do This?"; "Okay, I'm Ready to Try Writing"; and "Oh My Gosh, I've Really Written Something." As the section titles indicate, this book is as much a pep talk among friends as it is a process workbook. Big picture topics like project management skills, possible publication types available, and finding open-access journals are included, but it also gets as detailed as parallel sentence structure and Microsoft Word formatting. Chapters are divided into clear sections, with Key Points, Activity, Notes, References, and Resources sections at each chapter's end. This repeating arrangement makes it easy to find relevant sections as the writer moves through a process that can be long and repetitive. Some jargon or acronyms are included but generally the authors' writing is clear and concise for readers of all experience levels, setting a good example for aspiring writers.
