James Neuliep's straightforward textbook introduces college students to "some of the fundamental topics, theories, concepts, and themes" in intercultural communication (xi). It's easy to read, its pages are well designed, and it offers the appropriate apparatus for learning: a list of objectives, a summary, and a glossary for each chapter as well as "intercultural conversations," scripts for dialogs that reinforce the chapter's content. The text also contains excellent self-assessment questionnaires (for example, the "Intercultural Willingness to Communicate Scale" [447]).
