As I complete my five-year term as editor of Technical Communication Quarterly, I am struck by what an exciting time it is for scholarship in our field. Learning about the topics and questions that motivate our contributing authors has certainly been the most rewarding aspect of this position, keeping the editorial work fresh and engaging at every juncture. Editing the journal has been a privilege and gratifying experience. During these five years, the journal has seen a number of changes. Perhaps most notable for our readers was the move to a new publisher (Lawrence Erlbaum Associates) in 2004 and then to Routledge in 2007. During this period, a number of other positive changes have occurred. The journal is more broadly indexed than ever before, and the entire manuscript submission and review process has moved to a Web-based online system. At the same time, the journal has been recognized through awards that its publications regularly receive from the National Council of Teachers of English for outstanding work in technical and scientific communication.
