Not every elderly individual has health or cognitive issues and not all senior housing is assisted living. But if your customer appears frail or confused or if your account is a nursing home, rethink how you are going to control those pests. This is not your standard service. Pest management around the elderly is often handled similar to pest management in a hospital or medical facility. Elderly customers may be more susceptible to the effects of pesticide applications because of: 1. Medication interactions - Some prescription medications inhibit cholinesterase or reduce the ability of the liver to detoxify poisons in the system. The liver and kidneys are less able to remove toxins from the body as we age. 2. Lowered resistance - Chronic illness can depress the immune system and make individuals more susceptible to anything that could jeopardize their health, including germs carried by pests, and the toxic effects of pesticides.
