Oskar Barnack and the Leica Camera

George Eastman (1854-1932), whose company was the world's largest producer of photographic film, standardized on a film width of 35 mm. He also manufactured a fixed lens, point- and-shoot Kodak camera that appealed to a general audience. Some amateur photographers wanted small adjustable cameras for more advanced uses. Among the first and best-known was the German Leica, designed by Oskar Barnack.
