Reflections on SMT/Hybrid/Packaging

I'm sitting on an airplane heading for Heathrow, munching on my last oversized pretzel and trying to collect a few thoughts about the SMT/ Hybrid/Packaging 2004 conference in Nuremberg, Germany. If this show reflects business as a whole, then electronics in Europe is on an upward swing. The numbers alone have a story to tell. In 2003 there were 626 exhibitors; this year there were 651. In 2004, attendance was approximately 23,414, compared to 22,849 lastyear.
