In dieser Arbeit wird eine Historiographie von Cennino Cenninis II Libro dell'Arte (ca. 1400) vorgestellt. Es werden die Besonderheiten und Ziele einiger Ausgaben, Übersetzungen und maßgeblichen Kommentatoren herausgearbeitet und untersucht, wie der Libro von Malern des 19. Und 20. Jahrhunderts als eine Quelle der Inspiration und als technische Arbeitsanleitung genutzt wurde. Es wird auf zahlreiche Artikel und Bücher verwiesen, die in der beruflichen Fachwelt weniger bekannt sind, obwohl sie verdienten es zu sein. Die Arbeit zeigt, dass Cenninis Text genutzt wurde, als ob er die einzige technische Schriftquelle des Mittelalters und der Renaissance wäre und wurde daher weitherum beim Studium europäischer Gemälde eingesetzt; neue Forschungen vertreten dieThese, dass seine Inhalte deutlich stärker auf einen bestimmten Zeitraum und einen speziellen Ort bezogen sind und dass es daher von Restauratoren und anderen kritischer genutzt werden sollte.%This paper presents a historiography of Cennino Cennini's II Libro dell'Arte (c. 1400). It highlights the peculiarities and purposes of several editions, translations and principal commentators, and examines how the Libro was used as a source of inspiration and technical instruction by nineteenth- and twentieth-century painters. It draws attention to many papers and books that are not well known in the conservation community but deserve to be. It notes that Cennini's text has been used as if it was the only written technical source for the Middle Ages and Renaissance and has been applied widely to the study of European paintings; recent scholarship has suggested that its contents are more restricted in time and space, and that it needs to be used more critically by conservators and others.
