摘要

Historic tapestries are among a museum's best treasures, and they continue to challenge conservators with the need for their preservation and display. Tapestries were made to be displayed hanging on walls, a practice that most museums worldwide continue today. Specially developed support systems and protection, periodic rotation, appropriate storage, maintenance, and controlled environments are among conservators' methods of assuring the best preservation of historic tapestries. The ongoing task of refining these methodologies and better understanding material degradation is a priority for both conservators and scientists.
