Andre A. Rupp, Jonathan Templin, and Robert A. Henson divide Diagnostic Measurement: Theories, Methods, and Applications into three parts, with 14 chapters total. After a brief introduction in Chapter 1, the first part, which contains Chapters 2—4, is about theory— principles of diagnostic measurement with diagnostic classification models (DCMs). Two issues are dealt with at a conceptual level in Chapter 2. One is a comprehensive definition of diagnostic assessment from Kubinger (2006) and the frameworks needed to construct such a diagnostic assessment. Specifically, the authors give a detailed summary on evidence-centered design and the cognitive design system frameworks. The other issue in Chapter 2 pertains to the validation of diagnostic assessments. Rupp et al.
